River Guide Skills Series | WHI x AMF
Ages 15-18.
Join us for the Wild Hearts River Guide Skills Series, a hands-on adventure designed to teach you the foundational skills needed to confidently navigate rivers and begin thinking and operating like a professional raft guide!
We'll kick things off by learning how guides prepare for river trips—from reading river conditions and understanding river hazards to organizing group gear, managing logistics, and creating safe and enjoyable experiences for guests. You'll gain insight into the behind-the-scenes planning that goes into every successful river expedition.
As the adventure progresses, you'll learn how to rig rafts, properly use safety equipment, and prepare yourself and your team for time on the water. You'll also develop an understanding of river hydrology, hazard recognition, and risk management principles that professional guides use every day.
Once on the river, you'll step into guide roles and begin putting your skills into practice. You'll learn paddle commands, boat control, reading currents, identifying river features, and how to safely navigate moving water. Along the way, you'll practice leadership, communication, teamwork, and decision-making while helping manage the group's daily operations on and off the river.
This experience is designed to provide a true introduction to the world of professional river guiding. You'll leave with stronger technical skills, increased confidence on the water, leadership experience, and a deeper understanding of what it means to guide others safely through adventure.
Previous rafting experience is helpful but not required
